Natur (Recycle-o-mania)

December 16th, 2007 by amizon1

Recycling…recycling….hmmmm….such a big thing in Germany. Being a household, handling rubbish is not as easy as you think. It has become a habit for me, my husband , the whole family to put rubbish in its own right place.

I was never a recycle-o-mania even before in Malaysia. Such a shame as I call myself a chemical engineer, knowing certain things are not biodegradable like plastics etc. Even scientists do try to find replacement to plastics or maybe even better a biodegradable plastics. But does not mean in the meantime, we the consumers/household,the permanent producers of rubbish to simply throw things irresponsibly less considering how hard the disposal of the rubbish. Have you ever thought how these rubbish being handled in Malaysia, how piles up of rubbish in landfills keep piling up waiting for disposal in incinerators then would lead to major pollution.Despite the claim that the process could be clean, not polluting the environment, but still, that does not mean,we can continue not trying being a recylist, or at least to try to be one!

Do you know that, Germany was the first one in the world to start with an intensive program of recycling rubbish. In 1991, the green dot program was launched. Read more: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1568/is_n1_v26/ai_15382445/pg_1

Simple slogan!: "Germans wanted waste avoidance," says Helmut Fischer of Procter & Gamble. "They wanted to achieve avoidance of landfills and incinerators at any cost. This is ideology, not science."

Another excellent achievement of the recycling program of Germany: " In July 1993, Environment Minister Topfer proudly announced that Germans "are the trash collectors of the world."

This take-back policy has been working since years. Even I teach my both sons to do the same. Look here:

100_8489100_8492

100_8491What are the yellow bags in the pictures? They are meant only for metals  containers, plastics containers and packages. No glass and paper should be in there. There are special rubbish containers for glasses/bottles according to their respective colors like green, brown and white bottles. When disposing these bottles, the caps must be separated and thrown accordingly.

Read this blog that describe how recycle-o-mania she is in Germany like the rest of the inhabitants of Germany and how the typical recycling program is run all over Germany: http://bloggingmone.blogspot.com/2007/08/recycle-o-mania.html

These are some pictures of rubbish containers for example Brown dustbin(for biodegradable), Black dustbin(for non recyclable), Yellow Bags(for plastic-based,metal-based and packages) and Blue dustbin (for papers and cartons).

100_7449 100_7454100_7447

100_7446_1This is how it looks like every week, the rubbish waiting to be picked up.

The glass bottle collectors were well known in Malaysia like 20 years ago, but now, the idea of collecting glass is likely to extinct due to the wide usage of plastic bottles. Not to our suprise, that the recycling booths grow rapidly all over the nations and now depending on us to decide to be reyclists or not. Do you do it? Have not? Not too late to change! Teach our friends and families, insist on recycling, never wait for the rules and regulations to teach us to do it. Let the future generations appreciate nature in the sense of recycling, the least one can do to be called as environmentalist!

Naturalist, environmentalist, unpollutionist(if this word exist), and recyclist could be synonyms in a defined definition:

Liebe Natur.

Natur

Appreciating nature is not new to me I guess, considering, trying to define what appreciation is. Growing or planting plants is absolutely, no question about that,  also a sort of appreciation, as pretty much I do it.

Since we the whole family moved into a new apartment, I have no more garden, but a small balcony. I could not plant any more plants on ground but only of course in pots. Then, I realised, even if I have no more garden, the temptation was still there. Now, I may say it is a sort of a peculiar temptation, to me at least, or maybe it suits to be called as a new hobby rather than temptation in this year’s Fall season 2007.

How and why I discovered this new temptation?. Lets start by looking how beautiful Fall is: Fall_near_my_office
Scenery_near_klinikum_fall_season_3

First left: path to my office on foot (in the direction from my new apartment). The leaves turned yellow before falling off the branches. Unfortunately, I have not discovered and learned the names of the trees yet except for Maple of course, since Maple is so common.

Second left: a scenary from a different path also on foot to my office(from my old apartment).

Loving Nature is a norm to German kids, once in every fortnight, in my son’s (Faris) Kindergarten, there is a trip to forest or any kind of Nature with wild trees, the so called "Waldtag". They are taught to love nature and take care of nature even at early age.

Shots taken by Faris with my camera (not intentionally) at the Kindergarten tells the story.

Look at these: Pine cones, chest nuts, leaves were collected by the children at the Kindergarten, appreciated, exhibited and decorated.

That was how I started doing the same thing!  Look what I did with the idea.

Ring_of_nature

Those are the first frame decorations out of nature that I did this Fall. I did not actually preserve the leaves and fruits, but I glued in frames right away after plucking them from branches and trees, letting them dry in frames. To make them lovier,I added some artificial stuffs like butterflies and lady birds as decorations. However, letting them dry naturally in frames exposing to light, actually caused the colors from the nature to fade away. They looked even prettier in the beginning in contrast to the pictures that I snapped way days after the making. The last image I personally called it as the "Ring of Nature",with my sons and me collecting nuts and other stuff (dropped from trees like chestnuts, kastanien, pine cones) since September/October when they started to drop and covering the grounds. This idea was inspired by just observing how the Germans having the ring decorated at the front door especially nowadays, I guess celebrating the upcoming Christmas. I just did it for fun and decorated my wall, appreciating nature in my own way.

Now look at my next framework thing with nature:

Nature_7 Nature_8_1 Nature_9
Nature_10

My temptation seemed not to stop or become stagnant! Whatever I saw pretty enough, ideas just came out. Craving ideas with nature just came out naturally!

I plucked and plucked more leaves from trees and let them dry in books.  Disregarded what I thought people would think of my doing during plucking and collecting stuff, my mind kept jumping for creative ideas. Just love it!

For fruity stuffs and also roses, I hung them in closet and let them dry without being exposed to sun but with good ventilation, the point was to preserve the natural color out of them. Now see what I did just yesterday in new other frames.

Nature_12_1 Nature_13

My heart just burst with excitement now looking at the framework thing that I came up with this Fall season. Unbelievably astonishing and relaxing too!

I cherished Spring remarkably with joy and happiness looking at the plants with flowers and buds, with lots of beautiful colors and shading, giving me splendid pleasure and unbelievably happy emotions, smiling all the way walking on foot to my office. When summer comes, the colorful sceneries were still in view but towards, Fall, the emotions were totally mixed with sadness and gloomy. I tried to find something that would create another kind of appreciation towards the falling of leaves and the revealing of brown and naked branches. The scenery turned from colorful to brownish, yellowish and reddish view.

Now I discovered my emotions towards Fall season! I love Fall.

Subhanallah!… Creations by Allah are unbelievably incredible. Let man wonders how great He is. Just deal with it and pray a lot for his forgiveness and seek for blessing! Alhamdulillah!

Can’t wait for whity snowy season now! Winter. Then explore a whole new version of emotions with Nature!

Liebe Natur!

Obsessed to Gardening (Part II)

August 18th, 2007 by amizon1

The second part of the theme of Obsession to Gardening mainly focused on Sunflower (Helianthus Annuus). I was never a big fan of sunflower. However, this year, due to my as I said, my unbelievably curiosity and temptation to planting, I just grabbed the seeds in simply paper packs widely sold starting March especially for the summer seasonal plants. The pictures advertised on the pack itself, could be so powerful to catch ones crazy temptation like me hahahha! Why not this time try sunflower (whispers of urges). Could look yellowish in my small garden summer this year.

Images set 1: Sunflower seeds still in packs. 100_7429_1

100_7436 100_7437_1

Simply reading from the packs, it is recommended to plant sunflower in April and May then later blooming beginning July until October. There were 2 kinds of sunflower that I planted : "Sonnenblumen" and "Zwerg Sonnenblumen" which the former could grow up to 3 meters whilst the latter could only grow up to 80 cm. My favorite is the "Sonnenblumen". Could not wait the 3 meters Sonnenblumen actually!

Images set 2: The early growth of both sunflowers, starting from early germination process April, moved to ground in May and June 2007.

Every weekends, I spent at least more than 30 minutes to do some watering not forgetting fertilizing them. Being in position of mesmerized in excitement seeing the buds revealed and growing bigger was an OBSESSION! However, my obsession did not reach its peak since I did not do much studies or readings on how to grow them even since the starting of germination, I just played around with my "tangan sejuk" thing! That could also be an obsession, that counts too! Nevertheless, that could not be intelligent enough if I want to document my results (silly me!). For those interested to know more about sunflower, feel free to refer to these websites for further infos: (fews I recommend)

Lastly, the heads of "Sonnenblumen", one could dry them and keep the seeds for the next germination, unfortunately, in 4 seasonal country, then I need to wait till next year. In Malaysia, maybe one can do that all year round! Haven’t tried it before but will of course. Top of the list right now for planting flowering plants in Malaysia goes to sunflower (Garden of Sunflower) besides Rose (hybrid and wild) and Hockflowers Gardens.

See image below:

Image set 4: Pictures taken from Sohana’s friendster photo galery (En. Imran Zainuddin’s (FKK) wife currently in Japan following Imran of course doing his phd). Japanese sunflowers!

Subhanallah!

Adios!

p/s: anyone has pictures of Malaysian grown sunflowers, care to share them with me (or any hints or tips)

Obsessed to gardening (PART I)

July 31st, 2007 by amizon1

Gardening as hobby, leisure time activity and obsession

I love gardening! Since I was a child when I helped watering some of the pot-plants planted by my mother. People  always used to tell me, I might possess “tangan sejuk”, directly  translated as “cold hands”.You may nod agreeing to this typical expression which exists in a typical Malay community, Malaysian especially. Actually, it can be indirectly defined as, once or as you plant a plant, it will easily grow and grow and finally bloom.

On the contrary, I tend to always think, whatever you do, even planting, do it with knowledge. In parallel, with God’s will, then it will grow, InsyaAllah.

Holyhock_3

Holyhock_1_2

Holyhock_4_2

Since I got married to my beloved husband, my inner obsession to planting plants tremendously flourishing! With his great support, and also huge appreciation to my mother and father-in-law, for giving me the permission to take care of the plants that they have earlier like “bunga kertas”, the green plants and so on! I keep planting and seeking more and more information about any plants that I see.

Even now when I am in Germany, I am so glad that I have a small garden, which is actually not included in the house contract. However, I could not stand seeing the front small garden of the landlord’s not being taken care of. Therefore, since the beginning, I started to plant flowering plants like Geranium (Pelargonium), Hortensia (Hydrangea), Lavender and so on depending on the season.

This morning, actually, something just struck my mind! What if I grow some of the plants in Malaysia. One particular plant that I could easily see them through my apartment window is Hollyhock. At this time, it grows wildly in my small front garden, I assume, every summer, since I never plant it in the first place. Maybe, it was already planted by the previous tenant or the landlord of the apartment.

Image 1 : Hollyhock as scientific name is Alcea rosea.

Before I go back to Malaysia, I will InsyaAllah try to save some of the seeds and plant back home. I am not sure whether it will grow or not! But, no harm to try! Give it a try! For now, just try to seed them first!

Refer these websites for further information about the plant:
http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Malvaceae/Alcea_rosea.html
http://plantsbulbs.suite101.com/article.cfm/hollyhock_alcea_plant_profile
http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/perennials/14731

Referring to my quick readings from the internet, “Hollyhocks are perennials or biennials depending on your climate” and “Hollyhocks prefer rich, well-drained soil and full sun. Light shade is tolerated but wet winter soil is not” as preferred conditions. I could not wait to try planting them in Malaysia.

Anyway, see some of my collections of Hollyhock.

Image 2: A tall Holyhock which is nearly 3-meter tall before it went down facing the ground after a strong windy day in spring this year. Spot me through the flowers: camouflage!

Image 3: Traces of branches left which then became my house fresh flower decoration. Isn’t it great! Just taking fresh flowers from your own garden!

Friends and families, like I told you, truthfully, this is why gardening can be a huge and refreshing obsession!  Anyone interested in joining me having gardening as hobby?

Care to join?

KONVO MALAYSIA BERBANDING GERMANY

Bandingkan koleksi gambar-gambar konvo Germany untuk pemegang taraf Dr.(pemegang phd), di RWTH Aachen, Biochemical Engineering Department dengan koleksi gambar konvo ala-ala Malaysia.

All_3

Saksikan keunikan dan kekreatifan rekaan di atas topi ijazah yang membawa maksud tersendiri mengikut pemegang phd tersebut, antaranya tema bermain sukan, panggilan telefon, Dr.Kebab, suka menjelajah, dsgnya. Tiada upacara istimewa, hanya selepas peperiksaan akhir(oral), bila saja lulus, terus dipakaikan topi phd ala Germany!

Saksikan keunikan negara kita pula…..

Mana yang kekawan suka? Sukakan keunikan kemeriahan dan upacara konvo ala-ala Malaysia atau sukakan keunikan tiada upacara istimewa?

Bayangkan saya yang memakai topi phd ala-ala germany itu nanti, bagaimana agaknya rupanya yer? :) Sure gigi dari jauh dah nampak :)

Azan berkumandang

July 19th, 2007 by amizon1

Dear All, Assalamualaikum….

Apa kabar bloggers? Apa kabar kekawan ku dalam Friendster.  Saya tidak biasa menulis blog, terpikir adakah hendak menulis mengenai dugaan hidup, diari hidupku, atau kejayaan ku, kemenangan ku, kesusahan ku atau sebagainya.Dah lama terasa teringin nak tulis sesuatu. Salahku, pada satu hari, bila semua masih belum tidur, bila berkumandangnya azan isyak, terasa tersangat kuat, kebetulan tingkap dibuka sebab angin sepoi2 bahasa masuk sungguh menggoda. Jadi ku takut jiran Mat Salleh ku marah sebab bising memandang ku pernah mendapat aduan daripada nya ‘Summer’ lepas, sebab anak-anak ku bising lepas pukul 10 malam. Rupanya, bila saja si kecil mendengar azan keesokan harinya, dia pon sepantas kilat cuba merendahkan suara azan walaupun di waktu siang…Aastagfirullah…salah ku….tindak tanduk ku dilihat anak si kecil ku, kononnya menolong mak nya, tapi sebenarnya semua bermula dari SALAHKU.

menahan kesakitan ’sakaratul  maut’.

Diriwayatkan sebuah hadis yg
kelukan lidahnya ketika maut menghampirinya. "Ini jelas menunjukkan, kita
disarankan agar mendiamkan diri,  jangan berkata apa-apa pun semasa azan

berkumandang.

Sebagai
orang  beragama Islam kita wajib menghormati azan. Banyak fadhilatnya. Jika
lagu  kebangsaan kita diajar agar berdiri tegak dan diamkan diri. Mengapa
ketika azan  kita tidak boleh mendiamkan diri? Lantas sesiapa yang
berkata-kata ketika azan, Allah akan kelukan lidahnya ketika nazak
.

Kita

lancarkan lidah kami mengucap kalimah  "Lailahaillallah.." semasa sakaratul
maut menghampiri kami.

Amin
..amin..amin
Yarobbal a’lamin.."

Blog terbaru

February 13th, 2007 by amizon1

Assalamualaikum kawan-kawan…
Pertama kali setelah lama menjadi ahli frienster, saya tulis ‘post’.
http://rahran.freehostia.com
